In April, teenagers Lillie Reynolds-Smith & Mouley Yusef Sabour shared their observations & analysis of Streets & Getting Around in Cody Rouge & Warrendale on Detroit’s west side, challenging city government, resident organizations, and our design team to do something about it (link for full video in bio). This Saturday 8/24 2-6 pm at the Brennan Pool building in Rouge Park (21415 Plymouth), come see first draft concept designs that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, financial analysts & other professionals from @hectorurbandesign @mmarshalldesign @quinnevansarchitects @hingecollective @norman_m_archive have created with their collaboration for the Cody Rouge & Warrendale Neighborhood Framework. Over a sizzling sunny June 29 on Detroit's west side, residents & groups from across Warrendale & Cody Rouge came together to build picnic tables, which were then distributed to sitting areas created by Evergreen Block Club, Westwood Block Club, Warrendale Community Organization, Joy Community Association, and the @joysouthfieldcdc Farmer's Market. This Thursday, June 27, help this neighborhood get real projects to improve streets, parks, places to live & businesses by joining this work session hosted by Joy-Southfield CDC @joysouthfieldcdc with Detroit Planning & Development Department @detroitplanning. The agenda includes introduction to the city government’s Neighborhood Framework process & discussion of concrete projects you’d like the city and neighborhood organizations to undertake for improving the area’s physical environment for young people, all residents, and business & property owners.

GOT THE HORSES IN THE BACK...in Cody Rouge & Warrendale! From @blacdetroitmag It was a love of horses that brought a girl from the west side of Detroit diagnosed with ADHD – at age 10 – some peace of mind and something to aim for. That girl ended up winning the 2018 Spartan Stampede Rodeo up in Lansing this February, making her MSU’s first black Miss Michigan State Rodeo Queen. One day, a friend of her mother’s invited them to see a horse she owned at Buffalo Soldiers Heritage Center in Detroit at Rouge Park and she was utterly committed – she wanted a window seat into those equine enclaves. They started her out cleaning up after the horses, brushing them, just as a volunteer to see if she could take care of them. “I did that for a year and a half – I stuck with it, they were kind of like, ‘OK.’” And she was off. http://www.blacdetroit.com/people-places/msus-first-black-miss-michigan-state-rodeo-queen-khalilah-smith-proves-shes-no-one-trick-pony
